Dragon Stout

Brewed by Desnoes and Geddes  (the same folks that make Red Stripe) in Jamaica, Dragon Stout is one of those hugely enjoyable foreign stouts that you just don’t get to try that often…

Poured into a glass it’s as black as the earl of hell’s waistcoat, with a lovely looking oily tan head.

The aroma is complex and dark, very dark: black treacle, shovelfuls of de-bittered dark malts.  Roasty, toasty and gorgeously spicy.

The first taste that bursts through the more than ample effervescence is one of malty sweetness and very, very smooth dark malts.  Then other tastes take turns to twirl on your tongue:  nutmeg-spiciness, dried fruits, dried apples, and heavy roasted coffee and caramel.  In addition to all of this, the after taste manages to introduce a note of dried ginger and quite a long roasty bitterness.

Dragon stout is very complex, very tasty and very full bodied…I wish it came in bigger bottles.

This stout comes very recommended, in fact it’s one of the best I’ve had in ages.
